"Skewered"
Box elder, tall vase series

5" d x 28" tall

Made from a spalted, wormy box elder crotch with the longest 'feather' I had ever seen.  Because the wood was grey and did not look great, I bleached it to get rid of some of the grey.  After it had dried, I realized that it had cracked almost entirely in two.  After further examination, I decided to see if I could break it into multiple pieces, which I accomplished.  The pieces were then double dyed and joined together with brass rods.  The horizontal rod is to keep the vertical crack from worsening and led to the title.

Made in the 1990s
