Bois 'd Arc  Turning

10 1/2" wide x 19 1/2" tall

Turned from a piece of firewood which had lain on the ground for 10 years.  The piece was cracked so severely you could put your finger tips past the heart of the piece.  After turning, the crack was sawn away, leaving two pieces which were sanded and glued together resulting in an oval shape.  When freshly cut, bois'd arc is bright yellow, but it slowly changes to the reddish brown you see now.  Bois'd arc is sometimes used as a substitute for teak, as the colors are similar.  Turned in late 1990s.
